1. The certificate of authenticity
On each completed sale we issue a certificate of authenticity (“COA”) with a unique certificate ID and QR code, linked to a public verification page. The COA records the artwork, the issuing artist or estate, the sale date, and — for editions — the edition number.
The COA attests that, based on information provided by the seller:
- The work was created by, or is attributed to, the named artist, or is part of the named estate collection.
- For editions, the work is the stated number within a stated finite edition size.
- The work matches the description and images in the listing at the time of sale.
- The certificate is genuinely issued through Rachel's Palette and can be checked against the public verification page.
The COA is a record of attestation, not an independent expert appraisal or valuation, and does not by itself establish market value.
2. Provenance
- For estate and resale works, we maintain a provenance record describing the chain of ownership and attribution as supplied to us.
- Provenance is built from information provided by the artist, estate, or prior owner; we record it in good faith but do not independently guarantee facts we cannot verify.
- A private buyer record is kept for each sale and linked to the certificate to support future verification and resale.
3. Seller warranties
Sellers warrant the authenticity, attribution, edition details, and provenance of every work they list, and that they have the right to sell it. These warranties are set out in the Artist / Seller Agreement and are backed by the seller’s indemnity to Rachel’s Palette and to buyers.
4. Counterfeit and misrepresentation
Listing counterfeit, misattributed, or misrepresented work is a serious breach. Where a work is found to be counterfeit or materially misrepresented:
- The buyer is entitled to a full refund from held funds and may return the work at the seller's expense.
- The associated certificate is revoked and its public verification page is marked invalid.
- The seller's listings may be removed and the seller's account suspended or terminated under the Artist / Seller Agreement.
- The seller is liable for resulting losses and indemnifies Rachel's Palette and the buyer, and we may report unlawful conduct to the relevant authorities.
5. Verification and disputes
Anyone can verify a certificate using its QR code or verification URL. If you believe a work or certificate is not authentic, open a dispute from your order or contact legal@rachelspalette.com. Authenticity claims are handled under the buyer protection and dispute process in the Terms of Service, backed by the fund hold.
